Below you’ll find a detailed description of each service we offer.

Fort Myers Fishing Trips for Every Angler.

Experience the Best Fishing Charters in Fort Myers, Florida

Inshore Charters – Back Bay & Mangrove Adventures

Inshore fishing keeps you close to land in shallow back bays, estuaries and grass flats that stretch a few miles off the Fort Myers coast. The Lee County tourism board notes that inshore areas around Fort Myers include mangrove shorelines, bridges, piers and open flats. These protected habitats provide abundant forage for fish and calm conditions ideal for families and beginners.

Target species:
Snook – hard‑fighting predators that hold around mangroves and docks and are available year‑round.
Redfish (red drum) – bronze‑colored fish with a distinctive tail spot; they prowl grassy flats and oyster bars.
Spotted sea trout – light‑tackle favorites found on grass flats and canals.
Sheepshead & mangrove snapper – small but tasty fish with sharp teeth, often caught around bridge pilings and docks.
Jack crevalle & ladyfish – fast‑swimming species that provide fun catch‑and‑release action.

Calm back-bay inshore adventure with Sea n Red Fishing Charters

Inshore charters are perfect for anglers seeking consistent action, calm water and close‑up views of Fort Myers’ mangrove forests and wildlife. Morning or late‑afternoon trips are recommended during summer to avoid midday heat, while winter afternoons can produce redfish and sheepshead. Capt. Erik provides light tackle and will teach you how to cast under mangrove branches, work lures across grass flats and handle fish safely.

Nearshore Charters – Reefs & Wrecks within 9 Miles

Nearshore fishing charter departing from Fort Myers

Our nearshore charters take you just beyond the protected back bays to the nearby reefs and shallow Gulf waters around Fort Myers, Sanibel, and Pine Island. These areas feature sand bottoms, patch reefs, and natural structures that attract a wide variety of fish — all while staying comfortably within sight of land. It’s a perfect way to experience the open Gulf feel without venturing too far.

Target species:
Grouper & snapper – bottom‑dwelling fish found around reefs and wrecks; prized for their strength and delicious filets.
Permit – elusive fish targeted by sight‑fishing or live crabs.
Sheepshead – stripe‑patterned fish with human‑like teeth that nibble on barnacles and crustaceans.
Jacks & mackerel – speedsters that chase baitfish and strike hard.

Nearshore trips deliver the ideal mix of excitement and relaxation. You might bottom-fish for snapper, troll along the edge of the flats, or cast around reef lines where the action never stops. With short travel times and calm conditions, these trips are great for families, small groups, and anyone wanting a fun, easygoing day on the water.

Saltwater Charters – Blue‑Water Thrills

For those craving exciting action and open water, our saltwater charters take you across the beautiful Gulf of Mexico near the Fort Myers coastline. Saltwater fishing in this region is renowned for its variety — including sharks, grouper, bonito, barracuda, permit, blackfin tuna, cobia, and Spanish and king mackerel. Specialized operators like Sea n Red Fishing Charters highlight the thrill of battling large grouper and other powerful game fish; these waters also hold snapper, sheepshead, greater amberjack, barracuda, and multiple shark species, including blacktip, nurse, bull, and tiger sharks.

What to Expect:
Flexible trip lengths – Our saltwater charters can be customized for half-day, 6-hour, or full-day adventures depending on your schedule and goals.
Quality tackle – We use durable rods, reels, and braided line to handle strong, fast-running saltwater fish.
Varied techniques – Try bottom-fishing along coastal structures, casting near mangrove edges, or drifting through tidal passes with live bait.
Less-crowded areas – Capt. Erik prefers fishing productive local spots and back bays rather than crowded public reefs.
Responsible fishing – We follow all Florida conservation guidelines, practicing safe handling and catch-and-release for protected species.

Guests enjoying a saltwater charter trip in Fort Myers

Saltwater charters deliver the perfect mix of excitement and relaxation — from the thrill of reeling in powerful coastal fish to the peaceful beauty of open Gulf waters. These trips are ideal for both experienced anglers and adventurous families looking for a memorable day on the water and the satisfaction of taking home fresh fillets.

Freshwater Charters – Caloosahatchee & Canal Explorations

enjoying a private freshwater boat trip

Freshwater charters are typically half‑day trips that take you up the Caloosahatchee River, into quiet canals, or to local lakes like Lakes Park or Billy Creek, which the fishing guide at FishingBooker calls “dream locations” for bass. Expect a peaceful setting, light tackle and a variety of species. These trips are excellent for those who prefer calm waters and want to experience a different side of Fort Myers’ diverse fisheries.

Many visitors are surprised to learn that Fort Myers offers outstanding freshwater fishing. The Visit Fort Myers tourism bureau notes that inland waters around Fort Myers/Sanibel run all year long, hosting bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish as well as shellcrackers and oscars. Freshwater sources virtually surround the city, with the Caloosahatchee River leading off hundreds of miles of canals and both natural and man‑made lakes and ponds.

Target species:
Largemouth bass – Florida’s freshwater trophy fish; strong fighters attracted to small baitfish, shrimp and lures.
Peacock bass – colorful and aggressive predators found in scattered canals and lakes.
Bluegill & crappie – panfish that provide non‑stop action, perfect for kids.
Catfish & shellcrackers – bottom dwellers that bite readily in deeper holes and along canal edges.
Oscars & Mayan cichlids – exotic species introduced to Florida waterways.

Shelling & Sightseeing – Wildlife, Beaches & History

Family sightseeing and shelling boat tour in Fort Myers

Not every charter needs to revolve around fishing. Our shelling and sightseeing trips offer a relaxing way to explore Southwest Florida’s barrier islands, wildlife and history. The Sight Sea‑R cruises’ Shelling & Eco Cruise runs for three hours and lets guests cruise the waters around Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel and Lover’s Key, passing by mangrove forests and spotting dolphins and manatees. The highlight of that tour is a stop on Big Hickory Island, where passengers can walk along soft white sand and collect seashell treasures; the crew provides shelling bags and ensures no live shells are taken. Adventures in Paradise, another local operator, invites guests to discover dolphins, manatees, sea horses, osprey and pristine beaches brimming with shells around Sanibel and Captiva.

Sea n Red Fishing Charters customizes its shelling and sightseeing itineraries based on your interests and the tides. We’ll cruise past mangrove forests where dolphins play, slow down to watch manatees surface and share insights about local ecology. You’ll step ashore on secluded beaches to search for Sanibel‑quality shells or simply relax in the sun. Bring your camera – these trips offer fantastic photographic opportunities. Shelling charters are ideal for families with young children, non‑fishing companions or anyone who wants to appreciate the natural beauty of Southwest Florida.

Custom & Family‑Friendly Adventures

Custom private charter experience with Sea n Red Charters

Every Sea n Red Fishing Charters trip is private and can be customized. Choose a half‑day (4‑hour) charter to experience Fort Myers fishing without committing a full day, or book a 6‑ or 8‑hour trip to explore multiple habitats and species. Capt. Erik is happy to tailor your excursion to include shelling on the barrier islands, dolphin watching, manatee sightings, sunset cruises or photography sessions at landmarks like the Sanibel Causeway and Fort Myers Beach docks. Kids will learn how to cast, hook and reel under the guidance of a patient teacher. If you have a special request such as a sunset wedding cruise or burial at sea, just let us know and we’ll plan a memorable experience.

Capt. Erik Johnson, owner and operator of Sea n Red Fishing Charters, has devoted his life to exploring Florida’s waters. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, he fished freshwater streams as a kid and moved to Fort Myers in 1994 to follow his passion for saltwater fishing. With decades of guiding experience, he knows every oyster bar, grass flat and channel marker in Southwest Florida.

From quiet freshwater canals to the open Gulf, his lifetime on the water translates into patient instruction, local storytelling and a knack for putting clients on fish. Families appreciate his easy‑going manner and safe operation, while seasoned anglers respect his technical knowledge of tides, bait and tackle. The 22‑foot Skeeter SX220 bay boat is U.S. Coast Guard certified, outfitted with Power‑Pole shallow‑water anchors, a Spot‑Lock trolling motor and comfortable seating. Safety equipment on board is up‑to‑date and inspected, and Capt. Erik provides all rods, reels, tackle and bait so you can focus on fishing.

“I welcome kids and families and will teach you everything in my power to make catching possible. It’s always a learning experience.” – Capt. Erik Johnson

Why Choose Sea n Red Fishing Charters vs. Other Fort Myers Fishing Charters

When comparing Fort Myers fishing charters, you’ll see many offering similar promises about boat size and target species. Sea n Red Fishing Charters stands apart in several important ways: Capt. Erik’s three decades of local experience mean he knows every flat, channel, and mangrove edge around Fort Myers. Our trips are private and family-focused, so you’ll never share the boat with strangers. The Skeeter SX220 bay boat is equipped with modern electronics, safety gear, and a smooth, dry ride for your comfort. We offer flexible four-, six-, and eight-hour charters with transparent pricing — all tackle, bait, and licenses included, with no hidden fees. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned angler, Capt. Erik teaches casting, baiting, and local techniques while sharing stories about the Sanibel Causeway, Caloosahatchee River, and Pine Island Sound. Unlike larger group boats that crowd passengers and follow fixed routes, Sea n Red Fishing Charters focuses on smaller groups, personalized service, and inshore and saltwater adventures designed entirely around your family.

What Fish Are Biting Now? Seasonal Fishing Calendar

Southwest Florida offers productive fishing year‑round, but certain species peak during specific seasons. Capt. Erik stays on the bite by following seasonal migrations and weather patterns. Here’s a quick overview:

Winter (Jan–Mar)

Expect cool‑water species such as sheepshead, Spanish mackerel, sea trout and nearshore grouper/snapper. Fish hug structure like docks and reefs, and shrimp or small baitfish produce consistent bites.

Spring (Apr–Jun)

This is tarpon season — thousands of tarpon migrate along the beaches and passes. Snook and redfish also spawn in spring, while tripletail and cobia start to appear around channel markers and near-Gulf structures.

Summer (Jul–Sep)

Warmer water brings abundant redfish, snook, trout around the mangroves and grass flats, while grouper and snapper move into slightly deeper coastal waters. Early mornings and evenings are the most comfortable times to fish.

Fall (Oct–Dec)

Cooling temperatures concentrate redfish and snook near passes and deeper cuts. Though tarpon numbers wane, inshore action remains strong and the weather is pleasant.

This calendar helps answer “What’s biting now?” but remember — there’s always something biting in Fort Myers. Capt. Erik will recommend the best targets based on current conditions and your preferences.

Planning Your Trip: What’s Included & How to Prepare

What’s Included in Your Charter

Capt. Erik provides everything you need for a successful day on the water. Your charter includes rods, reels, tackle, bait, ice and bottled water, plus all safety equipment. Sea n Red Fishing Charters is licensed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The FWC notes that passengers fishing from a for‑hire charter boat with a valid charter license are exempt from purchasing individual fishing licenses. In other words, you don’t need to worry about a license — we’ve got you covered.

Other reputable Florida charter operators describe their offerings similarly: an Englewood charter with Saltwater Spoiled Fishing includes all essential gear — rods, reels, tackle and fishing licenses, and they confirm that all gear is provided for trips of various lengths. Just bring your own drinks, snacks and sun protection.

Meeting Location & Departure

Our home base is the Punta Rassa Boat Ramp near the Sanibel Causeway, a convenient launch that puts you minutes from the Gulf and the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River. Capt. Erik can also arrange pick‑ups from Fort Myers Beach docks, private canals or other marinas depending on tide, weather and your lodging location. Details will be confirmed during booking, and we’ll provide driving directions and parking information. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early so we can stow your gear and depart on time.

What to Bring

Pack the basics for a comfortable day: snacks and drinks, sun protection (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), light layers for changing weather and a camera. Gratuities are appreciated for great service. Leave a cooler in your car if you plan to take home your catch — Capt. Erik will fillet and bag fish for you.

Weather, Rescheduling & Deposit

Safety is our top priority. Southwest Florida weather can change quickly, and Capt. Erik monitors forecasts closely. If unsafe conditions are expected, he will reschedule or cancel your trip at no charge. A deposit is required to reserve your date; this deposit secures your time slot and compensates us for preparing bait, tackle and fuel. Our cancellation policy is designed to be fair:

  • Cancel or reschedule early: If you cancel more than 30 days in advance, we’ll apply your deposit toward a future trip at no additional cost. This mirrors the policy of Livin’ the Dream Guide Service, which notes that cancellations made more than 30 days in advance allow the deposit to be applied to a future booking.

  • Within 30 days: Cancellations inside of 30 days may forfeit the deposit unless we can rebook your slot. If the captain cancels due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, you’ll receive a full refund or the option to reschedule.

  • No‑shows: Guests who do not show up on the day of the trip will be charged in full.

We understand that travel plans change, so please contact us as soon as possible if you need to adjust your booking. We always work with you to find another suitable day.

Fort Myers fishing charters average about $500–$650 for a half-day (4-hour) trip. At Sea n Red Fishing Charters, our private rates are $550 for 4 hours, $750 for 6 hours, and $950 for 8 hours (covering up to 3 guests; a 4th can be added for a small fee). These prices include everything – bait, gear, licenses, and even fish cleaning – so there are no surprises. We aim to give you a top-notch fishing experience at a great value. Book your next adventure with Sea n Red Fishing Charters in Fort Myers and experience Florida’s best fishing firsthand.

Fish species vary with the seasons. Winter brings sheepshead, Spanish mackerel, sea trout, and larger grouper/snapper near shore. Spring features tarpon, snook, redfish, and triple tail. Summer offers redfish, snook, and deeper grouper/snapper, while fall is excellent for redfish and snook as they move into deeper cuts. Capt. Erik will recommend the best targets based on current conditions.

The river and surrounding estuaries host snook, redfish, spotted sea trout, mangrove snapper, sheepshead and seasonal visitors like tarpon. These species thrive around mangroves, oyster bars and grass flats. Capt. Erik knows these hotspots and will help you target a variety of fish during your trip.

Sea n Red Fishing Charters include rods, reels, bait, tackle, ice, bottled water and safety equipment. You don’t need to purchase a fishing license — Florida’s FWC states that passengers on a licensed charter boat are exempt from individual fishing licenses. Other Florida operators confirm that all essential gear and licenses are included in their charters. Bring your own food, drinks and sun protection.

Most trips depart from Punta Rassa Boat Ramp near the Sanibel Causeway. We can also pick up at Fort Myers Beach docks or other marinas by prior arrangement. Detailed directions will be provided when you book.

Our 22‑ft bay boat does not have a restroom, but there are restrooms at the marina. We recommend using the facilities before departure. For full‑day trips, we can return to port or stop at an island if needed.

For a 4-hour fishing charter in Fort Myers, it’s customary to tip around 15–20% of the trip cost. On a $450-$650 half-day trip, that’s roughly $75–$100. Tipping is like at a restaurant or tour – it shows appreciation for the captain’s hard work to make your day fun and successful on the water. Ultimately, it’s your choice, but gratuity is always appreciated for great service. Book your Fort Myers fishing trip with Sea n Red Fishing Charters and we’ll make sure you have a fantastic day on the water.

Fort Myers offers good fishing year-round, but many anglers consider late spring and summer the best time to visit. June and July are especially popular – the weather is great and warm-water species like tarpon, snook, and redfish are at their peak. Even in winter, we catch plenty of fish (sheepshead, trout, etc.) when the water cools down. There really isn’t a “bad” month to fish here. Whenever you come, Captain Erik will know what’s biting and where. Book your trip with Sea n Red Fishing Charters and experience awesome Fort Myers fishing any time of year.

Sea n Red Fishing Charters takes a maximum of 4 guests per trip. Our standard pricing includes 3 people, and you can add a 4th angler for a small extra fee. We keep our groups small so everyone gets personal attention and plenty of space to fish. (Many Fort Myers charters can take 6+ people, but we focus on quality over quantity.) It’s a perfect setup for families or a few friends who want a private adventure on the water. Book your trip with Sea n Red Fishing Charters and experience the difference of a personalized fishing charter in Fort Myers.

For a Fort Myers fishing trip, bring a few basics: sunscreen (lotion, not spray), a hat, polarized sunglasses, and clothes you don’t mind getting a bit wet. Pack any drinks or snacks you want (we have a cooler with ice) and a camera or phone to snap photos of your catches. We provide everything else – all the rods, reels, bait, tackle, your fishing license, plus water and ice. Essentially, just show up ready for fun and we’ll handle the rest. Book your outing with Sea n Red Fishing Charters for an easy, enjoyable day on the water.

Yes – we offer private shelling & sightseeing tours in Fort Myers as well. These relaxed excursions are great for families. It’s a fun way to explore the area’s natural beauty with no fishing required. The tour lasts about 3 hours and costs $375 (for 1–3 people; a 4th can join for a small fee). Book a shelling/sightseeing outing with Sea n Red Fishing Charters and see Fort Myers from a new perspective on the water.

Spring and early summer are prime in Fort Myers – tarpon arrive (peaking around May–June) and snook and redfish feed actively as the water warms. Fall brings big schools of redfish, and snook action continues as the weather cools. In winter, we target sheepshead (they love the colder water), along with trout and black drum. There’s no off-season here – something is biting every month. Captain Erik will tailor your trip to what’s in season. Book with Sea n Red Fishing Charters and we’ll get you on the fish, no matter the time of year.

Our Fort Myers fishing charters are all-inclusive. We provide everything needed for your trip: the boat and captain, all fishing gear (rods, reels, tackle, bait), your fishing licenses, and even ice and a cooler for your catch. We also clean and bag your fish at the end at no extra charge. Basically, you just bring your personal items (sunblock, snacks, drinks) and we handle the rest. There are no hidden fees. Book with Sea n Red Fishing Charters for a hassle-free, all-inclusive fishing adventure in Fort Myers!

During spring break (March–April) and summer, charters can book up weeks or months in advance, so try to reserve your trip at least a month ahead for those periods. For less busy times (like fall or winter), a week or two notice is usually fine, but earlier is always better to secure your ideal date. We’ll always try to accommodate last-minute requests if we can, but booking early is safest. Once you know your dates, call Captain Erik or book online to secure your fishing charter. Sea n Red Fishing Charters can’t wait to get you out on the water!

Fort Myers’ calm inshore waters make it perfect for family fishing trips. We love taking families out – we provide all the necessary safety gear for kids and keep the trip fun and educational. Captain Erik is great with children, helping them reel in fish and learn about local marine life. We can also shorten the trip (around 4 hours) to suit younger kids’ attention spans. If you want a safe, stress-free fishing experience that your whole family will enjoy, Sea n Red Fishing Charters has you covered. Book your family’s fishing adventure with us and make unforgettable memories on the water!

Our Fort Myers inshore and nearshore fishing charters cover local hotspots. Inshore, we fish the Caloosahatchee River, Pine Island Sound, and mangrove creeks around Fort Myers – targeting snook, redfish, tarpon, trout, etc. We also venture into the Gulf off Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, and Captiva to catch reef species like snapper and grouper just a few miles from shore. Captain Erik knows the honey holes and will take you where the bite is hottest. Come fish with Sea n Red Fishing Charters – one of the best fishing charters near Fort Myers – and explore the diverse waters of our area.

Yes – we clean and bag your catch for you at the end of every charter, free of charge. Captain Erik will fillet your fish and put the fillets on ice, so you can easily take them home (some guests even bring their cleaned catch to a local restaurant to cook). It’s all part of our service, so you can relax and skip the messy part. Book with Sea n Red Fishing Charters for a full-service experience – we’ll even handle the fish cleaning!

Inshore fishing in Fort Myers means exploring the calm, shallow waters close to shore — the bays, mangrove creeks, and grass flats where snook, redfish, and trout thrive. Nearshore fishing takes you a little farther toward the open Gulf to explore reefs and wrecks within sight of land, where grouper, snapper, and mackerel are often found. Sea n Red Fishing Charters offers both types of trips, and Captain Erik can recommend the best option for your goals and experience level. Whether you love casting in the quiet backwaters or fishing the productive coastal reefs, book a Fort Myers fishing adventure with us and enjoy the best of both worlds!

No. Florida’s FWC clarifies that anglers fishing from a for‑hire charter boat with a valid charter license do not need an individual saltwater license. Sea n Red Fishing Charters holds this license, so you’re covered.

Great fishing is available year-round in Fort Myers. Spring (April–June) is prime for tarpon, snook, and redfish. Summer brings excellent redfish and snook action along the beaches and deeper coastal waters. Fall is ideal for redfish and snook in the passes and deeper cuts, while winter delivers sheepshead, Spanish mackerel, trout, and near-Gulf grouper. Let Capt. Erik know what species you’d like to target, and he’ll recommend the best season and conditions for your trip.

Yes. Fort Myers boasts an extensive network of freshwater canals and lakes. The Visit Fort Myers tourism board notes that inland waters abound with bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish as well as shellcrackers and oscars, and the Caloosahatchee River leads off hundreds of miles of canals. Sea n Red Fishing Charters’s freshwater charters target largemouth bass, peacock bass, panfish and catfish using light tackle. These calm, scenic trips are ideal for families and anyone seeking a different experience than saltwater fishing.

Saltwater charters explore the vibrant Gulf waters near Fort Myers, where you can encounter a variety of strong, fast-moving fish such as grouper, snapper, amberjack, barracuda, and mackerel. These trips typically last 4 to 8 hours and use quality gear suited for coastal fishing. Nearshore charters stay within sight of land, focusing on reefs and wrecks that provide steady action and beautiful scenery. Choose a saltwater adventure if you’re looking for an exciting day on the water with plenty of opportunities to reel in powerful fish and enjoy the Gulf’s natural beauty.

Expect a leisurely cruise through mangrove‑lined estuaries with opportunities to watch dolphins, manatees and birds. You’ll land on a barrier island such as Big Hickory to collect seashells — our crew provides shelling bags and guidance on leaving live shells behind. Shelling trips are perfect for families, photographers and anyone who wants to enjoy nature without fishing.
